Setting up your computer to connect to S & L Internet

These directions are a prerequisite to configuring a dial up profile.

Windows 95 and 98:

  • Double click "My Computer"
  • Verify that the "Dial up Networking" Icon is present
  • If the "Dial up Networking" IS PRESENT then proceed to checking the "Network Protocols"
  • If the "Dial up Networking" IS NOT PRESENT then follow the "add Dial up Networking directions"

Adding Dial up Networking:

  • Click "Start" then "Settings" then "Control Panel"
  • Double click "Add/Remove Programs"
  • Click the "Windows Setup" tab.
  • Double click the word "Communications" and check the "Dial up Networking" box.
  • Click OK
  • You will be prompted for your Win95 or Win98 CD

Network Protocols:

  • Click "Start" then "Settings" then "Control Panel"
  • Double click the "Network" icon
  • The applet will default to the configuration portion
  • Under the heading "The Following Network Components are Installed" you should see the "Dial up Adapter" and "TCP/IP>Dial up Adapter"
  • If you see these two items all is OK, don't worry about any other items shown.
  • If the "Dial up Adapter" and "TCP/IP>Dial up Adapter" are NOT PRESENT proceed.
  • Click "Add"
  • Click "Adapter"
  • Click "Add"
  • In the left window scroll down and select "Microsoft"
  • Make sure the "Dial up Adapter" is highlighted in the right pane
  • Click "OK"
  • Click "Add"
  • Click "Protocol"
  • Click "Add"
  • In the left window scroll down and select "Microsoft"
  • Highlight TCP/IP in the right pane
  • Click "OK"
  • You will be prompted for your Win95 or Win98 CD
  • Reboot your computer
